( 03 ) — Career outcomes
The people who hold more than one train.
Scaled Agile names four groups for this certification. What they share is responsibility for delivery that spans more than one Agile Release Train — and none of them needs another credential first.
Change agents & SPCs
Guide enterprises in organising, roadmapping and coordinating large multi-train solutions across complex environments.
Solution Train Engineers
Facilitate large-scale events, sync multi-train execution and streamline delivery dependencies across value stream networks.
Solution managers & system architects
Establish architectural runways and Lean systems engineering practice that let teams innovate inside a system of systems.
Managers & business owners
Align multi-stream investment with corporate strategy, keeping the customer journey unified and supplier collaboration compliant.
Where large solutions usually come from
- A new system of systems — something large-scale being built for the first time.
- A change of strategy — a new vision that needs alignment far beyond one train.
- A merger or acquisition — unifying strategies, consolidating systems, integrating delivery.
- One customer experience across many products — harmonising a journey that spans several systems.
- A major technology change — a significant legacy replacement, run in parallel with the old.
- Delivery that has stopped working — missed deadlines and cross-organisation execution problems.
LSSP is a 2026 credential and no salary source publishes a median for it yet, so none is shown here. The Advanced SAFe track page carries published figures for the adjacent roles — role-based market data, not a course outcome.

What you’ll learn
Organise, roadmap and coordinate delivery across multiple value streams and suppliers. The eight domains below are the exam’s own scope, with the weighting Scaled Agile publishes for each. The course is AI-empowered throughout — model-based engineering, digital twins and digital threads, the SAFe CoPilot assistant, and human oversight of AI-generated insight.
Overview of Large Solution 8–10%
What Large Solution SAFe is, and the Large Solution competencies it rests on.
Organising large solutions around value 14–16%
Preparing and running the organising workshop, and what else to weigh when structuring around value.
Roadmapping large solutions 12–14%
Roadmapping in SAFe, then preparing and running a Roadmap Alignment Workshop.
Coordinating roles and events 16–18%
Large Solution roles, backlogs and alignment across Solution Trains and networks, planning and sync events, demonstrating progress, and Inspect & Adapt at this scale.
Vision, intent and context 12–14%
Understanding the customers of a large solution, creating alignment with the vision, communicating solution intent and defining the solution context.
Architecture and Lean systems engineering 10–12%
Specifying the solution incrementally, applying model-based engineering, evolving the architecture, and integrating the end-to-end solution frequently.
Compliance, regulation and governance 10–12%
Implementing a Lean Quality Management System, and mapping SAFe to regulation to demonstrate compliance.
Collaborating with and contracting suppliers 8–10%
Working with suppliers inside SAFe, and how to select and contract them.
The substantive change — two structures
The Solution Train is no longer the only answer. A value stream network is a loosely coupled alternative where each value stream delivers standalone value, holds its own funding and roadmap, and collaborates only for as long as the shared solution needs it to. Knowing which of the two you are looking at is most of the diagnosis.
| Solution Train — tight coupling | Value stream network — loose coupling | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Multiple ARTs collaborating to build one integrated solution. | Multiple value streams collaborating to deliver a coordinated solution. |
| Where value comes from | Individual components are worth little alone. The value is in the integration. | Each value stream delivers value on its own, and more through the shared solution. |
| Strategy and funding | Support for strategy and the funding rationale are linked — same people, same discussions. | Each supports strategy independently and is typically funded separately. |
| Vision and roadmap | One shared vision, intent and roadmap driving every ART. | Each has its own, aligned to deliver the shared solution. |
| Release cadence | Typically released as a single unit, in large batches. | Released independently to their own customers, coordinated for the shared solution. |
| Relationship | Parent and child — nested value streams reporting up to a shared solution. | Customer and provider — each is a supplier to some and a customer of others. |

( 05 ) — Your path
Where this sits in a career.
Scaled Agile sets no prerequisite for this course, and we do not add one. It is the step from changing one organisation to structuring delivery across several, and you can take it at whatever point that step arrives.
Where people arrive from
- Running one train — an RTE whose organisation has grown a second and a third, so the dependencies between them are now the job.
- Coaching an adoption — an SPC or change agent asked to structure delivery across several value streams rather than inside one.
- Owning the architecture — a solution manager or system architect holding technical integrity across a system of systems.
- Funding the outcome — a manager or business owner aligning multi-stream investment, suppliers and compliance behind one strategy.

Frequently asked questions
Click any question to expand the answer.
Do I need another certification first?
No. Scaled Agile lists this course at Foundational level with no prerequisites required. You do not need SPC, RTE or any other credential first. Most people arrive already running a train or coaching an adoption, but neither is a gate.
What are the exam details and passing score?
45 multiple-choice questions, 90 minutes, passing score 80%. Accreditation is awarded on passing, and the exam fee is included in the tuition.
What credential do I earn?
The Large Solution SAFe Practitioner (LSSP) certification, with a verifiable digital badge you can share on LinkedIn. Certified professionals also earn PMI PDUs and Scrum CEUs.
Who is this course for?
Scaled Agile names four groups: SAFe Practice Consultants and change agents; Solution Train Engineers; solution managers and system architects; and managers and business owners. What they share is responsibility for delivery that spans more than one Agile Release Train.
Does the course cover AI?
Yes, and it is a substantial part of the material — AI in advanced systems engineering (model-based engineering, digital twins and threads, predictive maintenance), the SAFe CoPilot assistant, AI-assisted evidence-gathering in the value stream workshops, and how to keep human oversight over AI-generated strategic insight.
Solution Train or value stream network — what’s the difference?
A Solution Train is tightly coupled: several ARTs building one integrated solution, where the value is in the integration. A value stream network is loosely coupled: each value stream delivers standalone value, holds its own funding and roadmap, and collaborates only as long as the shared solution needs it to. The network is the substantive addition in this material.
Can we run this privately for one organisation?
Yes, and it is the common case — Scaled Agile expect this class to run mostly as a private cohort, and so do we. The two facilitated workshops are far more useful when everyone in the room shares a solution. Ask us about a private cohort and we will schedule it around your PI boundaries.
How long is it, and what if the dates stop working?
Two days, live online, capped at 18 seats, taught by a Gold SPCT. If the dates stop working we move you to another cohort — no deadline and no fee.
