Do I need an existing Scrum Master certification to take SASM?
Yes — SASM is unique among SAFe certs: it requires a valid Scrum Master credential before enrolment. We accept any of: SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), Scrum Alliance Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), or Scrum.org Professional Scrum Master (PSM Level I or higher). The course assumes you already understand Scrum fundamentals — we build on them, not from scratch.
What’s the difference between SSM and SASM?
SSM teaches you to lead a single Scrum team inside a SAFe Agile Release Train. SASM goes much further — facilitating across multiple teams, leading cross-team flow on the ART, coaching engineering and DevOps practices, running problem-solving workshops at scale, and building a continuous-improvement culture.
How does SASM compare to CSP-SM (Scrum Alliance) or PSM II?
SASM is specifically focused on scaling Scrum within SAFe enterprises — cross-team flow, ART events, Built-In Quality. CSP-SM and PSM II are framework-agnostic advanced SM certs. If your organisation runs SAFe, SASM is the natural advancement and is recognised in Scaled Agile’s career path.
Is the course available in-person or remote?
Both. Public cohorts run live-virtual (remote) by default. Private on-site or live-virtual cohorts are available for teams of 5+ on request. Every cohort is instructor-led by an authorised SAFe instructor (SPC/ASPC).
What are the exam details and passing score?
60 multiple-choice, 90 minutes, passing score 80%. Your first attempt is included. Taken online with a 60-day access window. See the official SASM 6.0 exam study guide.
After SASM, what’s the next role I should aim for?
Two main paths. Release Train Engineer (RTE) if you want to facilitate at the program level (PI Planning, ART events, multi-team flow). SAFe Practice Consultant (SPC) if you want to coach and teach SAFe across the enterprise. Many SASMs do both.
How long is the certification valid?
One year, renewed through annual SAFe Studio membership (about $100/year for foundational levels). The renewal cost is the same as SSM — you don’t pay more for SASM’s higher tier.
Does the updated SASM include AI concepts?
Yes. The AI-empowered curriculum (2025+) incorporates AI-driven coaching practices, team facilitation tools, retrospective analysis, and impediment-pattern recognition — what to use, when, and the guardrails to keep humans in the loop.
